This week begins on Wednesday because that is the when we were introduced to this project.
Wednesday 24 February: Today was the first lesson on this new project, the final project of the year, the only one that can get me a grade. So the pressure is real. The title of the project is Innovation, and I really like that, I think there's a lot of paths I could take with this brief. Last year's final project was biomimicry and I found that one a lot harder right from the get go. Today I'm just focusing on understanding the project and getting familiar with the criteria, especially those distinction ones because that is what I'm aiming for. Funnily enough on the brief there is a picture of Zaha Hadid's Heydar center and Zaha was the first architect I though about when I heard the title of the project. So I'm now making the decision to not use her as one of my 6 artists, because it's an obvious choice, and also because I want to discover new artists and research into architects I have not researched in already. Same goes for Frank Gehry and Frank Lloyd Wright because once again they are both architect's I've researched. Now this is not to say neither of the 3 won't show up sooner or later because I'm guessing it's inevitable that some of their work will relate to my project regardless of where I choose to take it.

Thursday 25: In yesterday's powerpoint there were a few tasks that had to be done. One was to pick innovations from 3 time periods. For the lifetime one that was fairly easy, I just looked to the let of me where my headphones hang and it seemed like the most appropriate thing to pick, on a daily basis it's not the thing I use the most, but it is definitely the most interesting object to draw from, most phones look alike, whereas there's a great variety in headphones, a variety I had on hand because they are numerous headphones at home. For the other two I went online, looking at lists of the most important innovation of the past 100 years, and for all the amazing inventions, drawing a light bulb just didn't excite me. So I scraped the online lists, and coincidently the answer for the 50 years one was on my right, Darth Vader's mask. The idea for the mic came after I had a stroll in the house to find a guitar which I learned was invented in the 16th century and therefore not right, but I just went and looked at all different instruments, disappointed that the drums and saxophone were way too old I landed on the mic.
Friday 26: Today was a light day, I just finished the second task from that initial power point. It's just a self reflection task where I need to note down my strengths and weaknesses. This task although seemingly simple it's quite difficult, usually it's others giving you feedback on what's good and what needs improving. Now I think the weakness were easy enough for some, because I'm aware of those weakness, as they have been weakness since I started this course, however putting evaluation at the start kind of hurt at the start, but reading through my past evaluations it definitely needs work, I mean everything needs a lot of work.
Saturday27: First day of the artist research, I just went online and looked at lists of the most innovative architects. I have architects I deem innovative but what do I know, it's better to make sure it's not just my thinking. In terms of productiveness this day was also bad, I completely went on a tangent and just looked further into the architects on that list I didn't know, but putting the project aside it was great. I especially loved Shigeru Ban. On that list there was only 1 of my 3 architects however which maybe isn't so great.

Sunday 28: I found another list today, this time 70 artist, so the possibility of me steering away from the project was even greater. I obviously steered away but again it was amazing to look into those artist I didn't know, I have a whole list now of all the artist I need to go look at when I get the time. Another plus to this list was that my other two architects I wanted to research were here. So now I had the confirmation that my choices were appropriate. I also came across the Eames couples on this list. Seeing their picture didn't help, neither did the description, but then I searched up the Eames lounge chair, which I didn't know by name but most definitely knew. Another artist I loved was Aleksandr Rodchenko, who clearly inspired Shepard Fairey. So at this point I have 4 artist, even 5 with Aleksandr.
