Here's screengrabs of each of the components with their intended materials. There are four distinct materials, concrete, wood, glass and metal. However there are different types of metal and concrete. The metal is used for all servant spaces, the stairs and lift. Metal is also used for the frames of the windows and the structure for the roof. There are two different types of metals used, a light and darker one, and that is done to create a separation between parts. The moving part (lift) is lighter, whilst the stationary components are a darker metal. There are three different finishes of concrete used. The floors are polished concrete, so they are easier to clean. Scored concrete is used for the entrance hall's ceiling, and it is the only place it is used. The purpose of it is solely aesthetic, and helps create a pattern. The last concrete used is the one that is visible from everywhere nearly and its those concrete blocks. I picked them because it was the best on sketchup in terms of colour and texture, however in reality I wouldn't want to have the blocks be so small or have any circle. The small size of the blocks create an unwanted pattern/grid that makes the building seem too structure and repressive, getting in the way of what I hope would be a flourishing community. Concrete is already a difficult materials to leave bare, and that grid is just too much. The last material used is wood, and helps bring warmth in a sea full of cold materials. It also helps creates visual variety. You will notice that the wood components are the ones that inhabitants are most likely to interact with, the rotating panels, ramps and doors. The concrete already overloads the eyes, so I thought it would be important that the inhabitant's touch not be overwhelmed too, so a comfortable, warm and comforting material is what I want to touch. The insides of the rooms are painted white, for tranquility, I don't think having students in concrete boxes would be appropriate, it would be too much concrete. That is all for materials, and colours, no additional colours to create distinct areas, I don't like that.
