Mind Map

This is my mind map, and what I believe needs to be present and taken into account in order to make this project successful. Now obviously that is only my opinion, and I still need to make my questionnaire and get people to give me their take, so I can get a more holistic view of it and not produce a space that only is targeted at my preferences. But anyway in the mind map, I note that there needs to be a lot of storage space, ideally built in because you win space, and in terms of longevity it's also better, it limits the possibility for inhabitants to personalise the space, but that's just a cost to pay. In terms of students decorating the space I said that walls should be of neutral colours. I also said no carpets, because that will get ruined very quickly. A permanent desk and bed is a must I think as well, no fold out I don't think, at least definitely not for the desk. I am also thinking about designing different types of room some houses fully equipped and others without the kitchen for example.

This was one of the first thing I noted down when I got the brief for the first time, and it's just an evidence of my previous thinking, and the fact that I wanted to make a building that looked really cool, so I was thinking about having the apartments be surrounded by like communal places, small restaurants/bar, gardens etc, and have that be surrounded by some kind of structure that would encapsulate it all, a kind of fake facade so that from the outside it would good. Since then I have changed my outlook completely, and making a building that just looks good is of not the biggest concern, I believe that would've had been just a lazy fix, housing blocks can be beautiful, most aren't that is true, but a lot are just amazing so there is no reason why I couldn't create one. I'll have to think about it more, that's for sure but at the end it will make it that more sweeter, and it will be a better project; because offering an ugly or boring design and something to cover it up is just not smart idea. Also considering that this is to be student housing, having an extra structure that serves a purely aesthetic purpose is not appropriate in terms of cost of the building. I'm also scrapping the idea of having facilities be at hand for the student, I've cleared that in one of the weekly journal entries. I'll have communal spaces, which will be kitchen and living and that will probably stop there. If everything is on hand for the students then they might be compelled to just stay in that small "bubble".
