Final Outcome

So for the exhibition you are asked to send in three pictures, for artwork, or there is the possibility to send a video if you have a 3D piece of work. After discussing with my teacher we decided to send in a photo of the physical model, a screenshot of the digital model and finally a video of the digital model. We decided to do this so people could get a full idea of the project, see it whole with the rooms in context. The photo we went with had the corner kitchen/living in the forefront and so that decided what the screenshot of the digital model would be. It made sense to have the same room shown so people would fully understand it. I'm really happy with what is being sent, because the kitchen/living is a room that I really love. Alongside the photos/video needed to be a description of 800 characters max, a title and 3-5 key words that would be used as search term and help with discoverability.

Chosen Photograph

All I did with the photo was get it in photoshop and edit out some of the glue stains and part of a sticker that you could see on the back wall of the kitchen/living.

Description of Piece

This piece was for my final year project titled innovation; I chose to rethink what student accommodation could be. The focus was on creating a space separate from the outside that would encourage its inhabitant to build a community together. One that would flourish and take in anyone from anywhere. One way in which this transit is possible is with the modular bedrooms that can be taken out at any time. All spaces are designed with interaction in mind, the entrance hall and corridors to the front door are all purposefully oversized. Alternating on each corner are the main co-living spaces a 2-level kitchen living or terrace. The shared living is not the only option, as larger fully equipped rooms are also on offer, for the more private. The physical model was laser cut from plywood boards and measures 31.6cm by 31.6cm with a height of 15 cm and is 1:1000 replica of the first 2 levels. The main inspiration was Louis Kahn’s Philip Exeter Library.

Title of piece - 21072

It's not random, it means something. What? who knows... well I know but that's it.
