This is my egg shop; it is aimed at a local farmer. With this building I was trying to explore two key ideas I jotted down on my mind maps.
Those two things were that eggs are weak and strong at the same time and my interpretation that they are the exploitation of something innocent and pure.
In order to solve this idea of exploitation I targeted this building at a local farmer whose work is honest and ethical. This brings about hope for the chickens which is why I chose to cut out 3 holes in the roof for windows and light to shine through. But all of this idealistic so the floor is glass and reality leaks through, chickens are and will be exploited and eggs will be put in boxes, so the grid like foundation is purposefully exposed.
The second idea was that eggs can be strong or weak, this led to the two main shapes being used; the strong angular square and the smooth soft edged circle. But diving deeper into these two shapes and the opposite can be observed, the square becomes a beam that structurally is weak because all weight is centred in one area. The circle becomes an arch which is strong as weight distribution is equal. This is used to mirror the egg which easily cracks when force is applied only in one spot, but stays stoic when force is applied on top and bottom with equal force.
Here are a few stills of my building.
