After having discussing with my peers and created a clear mind map on my target audience I realised that a lot of my previous ideas were maybe not right, dangling a bunch of masks, mirrored monoliths or having a huge concrete cylinder with spikes sticking out of it was just not really fitting. From the feedback I learnt that using mirrors and light was attracting so I'll develop upon that. Using brute concrete was also liked by others and is fitting with arts and craft in that materials used were always left with their natural finish. So my idea for these next designs is to create something that will encourage curiosity and really exploit all of the viewing points that come with the atrium having multiple floors. After the arts and craft movement came the Art Nouvelle movement which was inspired by the arts and craft movement only lines were a lot more organic and expressive, very nature inspired. So maybe move towards more organic shapes. So I then went on to create 3 more designs.
The first idea there is a concrete block with an upside down pyramid covered in mirrors and light boxes on each side of the pyramid. Thinking about it now it would be more appropriate to have the outside also covered in mirrors so that I don't steal all the light from the room. The second idea would be a series of arches inspired by various cultures, the outside of the arches would be covered in mirrors again, and the inside arc would be lights. the idea would be to create a corridor like structure where students would walk through; and the mirrors would allow for the people walking on the higher levels to also experience something.
Idea three is essentially again a concrete block, but a lot of cut outs, to the point where it is not really a block anymore. This designed is influenced by Xavier Corbero's house. A lot or arches none being the same size going in various directions with a staircase on the end to represent the arts and craft staircase.
